Asphalt Shingle Roofing

Behind the familiar look is a layered construction, and the mat gives the piece its strength. Without a surface of mineral granules, the asphalt beneath would dry and crack in a short time, and the granules end up in the gutters.

Older houses often wear three-tab shingles because they were once the standard, and a little care goes a long way. Dimensional shingles imitate the look of shake or slate at a modest cost, and colors come in a wide range. The top of the range offers the richest textures and the greatest thickness, and the framing should be checked before choosing the heaviest types.
